Mary Grosskopf

Mary Grosskopf May 10, 1924 -- April 13, 2020 Mary was born in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. She was eight years old when her mother died, so she and her younger brother Phillip, were brought up by aunts and uncles. When Mary finished high school, she attended Milwaukee State Teachers College, which is now the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. After graduating in 1943, she taught elementary education. She met the love of her life, Richard, at the University of Wisconsin in Madison and they married on June 24, 1950. The couple first settled in Niagara Falls, New York, but they moved numerous times over the next 10 years, form New York State to Texas to Delaware. They had eight children. After Richard died in 1982 and the last of the children finished college, Mary traveled with old classmates from the Midwest. She enjoyed seeing Europe and Asia with friends, but she also struck off on her own, traveling to Hawaii and taking the glass-domes train to Canada. Mary moved to the warmth of San Diego in 1987. She loved classical music, theater, and all things French. Mary very much loved her children Frederick (deceased), Mary Catherine, Loretta, Richard, William, Theresa, Margaret, and Paul. In addition, she is survived by ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
