Karl Roundy

Karl Roundy passed away on April 10, 2022 with his children by his side. Karl was born in Pennsylvania on April 10, 1960, and he found his way to San Diego nearly 40 years ago. He loved the great outdoors, and taught his kids how to fish, navigate rivers and lakes, camp under the stars, ride their bicycles off-road, and to truly appreciate the simple things in life. Notably, Karl taught his children, Misty Hirsch and Joshua Roundy, to embrace curiosity, and seek out the how’s and why’s of life, which is something they have done throughout their lives. When grandkids entered his life, Karl shared the same enthusiasm for nature and life’s wonders as he had when he was younger.

Karl also spent his life working with his hands. Whether he was building a motorcycle or fixing a Porsche, sketching schematics for a new part, teaching his kids how engines operated, or even crafting skateboards out of scrap metal, he was thoughtful with every project and truly knew his craft. He showed off his skills in various capacities over the last 25+ years as a Federal employee for the Department of the Navy.

At Karl’s request, his children will scatter his ashes in the mountains during a private ceremony. Family, friends, and members of the community are invited to join the Hirsch and Roundy families on Friday, June 10, 2022 at 2:00 pm at North Coast Church (2405 N Santa Fe, Vista, CA 92084) for a celebration of life service.
